The YSHIELD® HNX Shielding Tape is a professional-grade, self-adhesive conductive textile tape designed to optimize shielding performance at overlaps, seams, gaps, and edges between electromagnetic shielding materials. Featuring a rough conductive fabric surface and conductive adhesive backing, HNX tape helps maintain shielding continuity in high-performance installations. Available in 50 mm and 100 mm widths, supplied in 50-meter rolls.
The YSHIELD® HNX Shielding Tape is designed to improve electromagnetic shielding performance where sheets or webs of shielding material overlap. In large-area shielding installations, adjoining materials typically require overlapping seams. Depending on the shielding material, adhesive, and installation method, small gaps can remain between layers, creating potential paths for electromagnetic radiation to penetrate the shielding system.
While additional seam treatment may not be necessary for basic shielding applications, it becomes increasingly important when working with high-performance shielding materials where maximum attenuation is required. HNX shielding tape can be applied over overlapping web edges, seams, slits, gaps, and other transitions to help maintain the shielding effectiveness of the overall installation.
Unlike conventional smooth aluminum or copper foil tapes, HNX uses a rough conductive textile surface made from polyester, copper, and nickel. According to YSHIELD’s comparative testing, this textured construction significantly improves shielding performance at overlapping edges by impeding electromagnetic radiation as it passes through the adhesive layer.
The HNX Shielding Tape features a conductive acrylic adhesive backing with high adhesive strength, providing reliable contact with compatible shielding surfaces. With shielding attenuation rated at 76 dB, HNX is particularly suited for professional installations using high-performance shielding materials such as YSHIELD A300, A190, and K150.
HNX Shileding Tape is available in two widths: HNX50 at 50 mm (1.97″) and HNX100 at 100 mm (3.94″), allowing the appropriate tape width to be selected based on the shielding material and installation requirements. Both versions are supplied in 50 m (164 ft) rolls.
YSHIELD conducted comparative testing using its A190 shielding material to evaluate the effect of different seam treatments. The A190 material itself measured 112 dB without an overlap. When two sheets were adhesively installed with an overlap, performance at the overlap measured 61 dB.
In the manufacturer’s testing, a conventional EMC tape produced 70 dB, while commercially available aluminum adhesive tape produced 68 dB. Using HNX50 Shielding Tape, the tested shielding performance at the overlap reached 111 dB, nearly maintaining the attenuation measured for the uninterrupted A190 material.
YSHIELD attributes this performance to the tape’s rough textile surface, which creates a more effective electromagnetic barrier through the adhesive layer than smooth copper or aluminum tapes.
For large-area shielding installations, properly overlap adjoining shielding materials according to the installation requirements of the specific shielding product. Apply the HNX Shielding Tape over the web edges and overlapping seams where enhanced shielding continuity is required.
Ensure surfaces are properly prepared before application and apply sufficient pressure to establish good contact between the conductive adhesive and shielding material.
For bonding and application of the tape, YSHIELD recommends a Bonding Scraper to apply consistent pressure and promote proper adhesion.
